The City of Opp uses an automated system for garbage collection. Homeowners are provided with free 95-gallon carts upon activation of a residential utility account.
Monthly service fee for once a week pickup is $20.00 per cart, up to a maximum of 4 carts.
The city is divided into five different sections for the purposes of garbage collection, each section is assigned to a specific day of the week for regular garbage pickup. Regular garbage routes run every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday and are subject to the following requirements:
Homeowners and businesses with 95-gallon carts are responsible for placing these at the curb for garbage pickup. The cans should be placed by the curb the night before, or no later than 5:30 a.m. on the day of scheduled pickup.Carts must be removed from the curbside within 24 hours of pickup. Waste receptacles are for household garbage only. All waste must be placed inside of the cart. Boxes, bags, or containers, other than the one provided by the City, will not be picked up.
Trash is collected on a fixed route throughout the city from Monday through Friday. Your pickup day can vary from week to week. There is no designated pickup day for any location. Trash should be placed off the street and behind the curb or pavement edge. Trash must be separated into two separate piles, one pile for yard waste and a separate pile for junk. Mixed waste will not be picked until separated.
Trash Collection is done in two separate operations by two different collection vehicles. One unit picks up yard waste only, while the other picks up only junk. Separate pickups are required for these materials because they are disposed of in two different locations.
Yard Waste: consists of limbs (which must be cut into lengths of 8 feet or less), leaves, grass clippings, and other natural yard growth.
Junk: consists of furniture such as couches, bedding and appliances, metal objects, wood, and other “non-hazardous” materials.
The Street Department picks up trash and yard debris placed curbside by citizens in residential areas. Regular household garbage can not be mixed with trash.
Items discarded by commercial contractors doing home improvements,tree services or lawn maintenance, will not be picked up by the Street Department. Residents should make sure that the removal of all discarded materials is included in all price quotes by contractors.
Requests for special, off route, pickup of trash is available for $50.00 per pickup

The City of Opp provides a C & D landfill for use by persons living within the Opp City limits. Residents may haul their own trash and junk to this facility for free if they provide an Opp utility bill stub.
All material disposed of at this facility must be placed in specific areas designated for specific waste. Areas are available for limbs, leaves, and general debris. Gate attendants will direct you to the proper location based on the materials you wish to dump.
This is a city-owned construction and demolition landfill; fees are collected for contractor use.
This facility is prohibited by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management from accepting hazardous waste, tires, household garbage, or dead animals.
